What is gas scrubbing? Wet Gas Scrubbing systems are devices that are used to remove potentially harmful gases/particulates and other contaminants such as acids, and process off-gases from industrial exhausts.

Why use (the correct) nozzles for gas scrubbing? In short, nozzles are used for scrubbing applications in order to remove these pollutants and contaminants present in process liquids, gases, and equipment. The nozzle helps capture these pollutants by providing a large surface area that is created by the spray pattern and droplet size.

There are different kinds of scrubbers for many kinds of applications, including open-style, and packed bed scrubbers. All require a low-maintenance and low-clogging nozzle design.

In an open-style scrubber, a nozzle can be used to spray liquid directly onto the process stream. In this application ensuring the right conditions and droplet size is paramount to maximize the reaction.

Another style of scrubber is the packed bed style. This involves a packing material typically arrayed in a column. As the nozzle sprays over, a larger surface area is provided between the gasses and liquid to capture and neutralize the gases. These systems are typically quite compact, and offer cheaper running and build costs. Some typical applications for a packed bed-style scrubber include incineration and odour control.

Part and parcel to these applications is the use of spray lances. These can be stationary or retractable. These are used to place the nozzles at the right height and location within the vessel or tank to deliver the intended results.

The MP MaxiPass nozzle invented by BETE is the world's most even conical spray pattern distribution nozzle. With the advantage of maximum free passage to reduce blockage, costly downtime and maintenance. The TF Spiral Nozzle (pigtail design) was invented by BETE as well and is the ultimate low-clog, low-maintenance, wet-scrubbing conical water distributor. The TF series is available in a huge range of chemically resistant materials, connection sizes, spray angles and flow rates.

Spray Nozzle Engineering has developed, tested, and provided spray lances and nozzles for many different gas scrubbing applications. Let us know your specific operating parameters and requirements.
